It’s often said that we are capable of anything we put our minds to. I certainly like to think that I can make myself do anything if I dedicate enough time and effort to it.
I fail to accept anything less than perfect and sadly to my own detriment this can cause a lot of inner aggravation. I am a classic Gemini – excitable, fickle, full of ideas one minute, cross and irritable the next. I wear my heart on my sleeve and will often be mistaken for being naïve. I refuse to close my mind. I am always on the search for more information and stimuli – I’ve always been an avid novel reader, I enjoy the outdoors and peace and quiet.
So – the ever changing world we live in fascinates me and so do humans. People are bizarre and wonderful and I find myself more intrigued by them everyday.
I think this is one of the reasons I became a hairdresser – the fashion industry moves so quickly so it keeps me on my toes, I get to meet and chat with some wonderful and interesting people and make them feel good. I consider myself incredibly lucky.
I’ve always found myself wanting to help others. A good friend once told me; “You have to be your own hero…” that sentence has never left me.
I’ve recently had a few people ask me about my fitness and diet regime. I am a runner – I love slow paced distance running, outdoors with music – it’s just wonderful. Of course my body won’t allow this constant pavement pounding for much longer. My right knee is already a mess and I know that my running days are probably numbered. I do try to live a healthy lifestyle and good food is very important to me especially in the world we live in where there is a food “industry” and it is so corrupt. However there are so many inspiring people out there striving to make our wonderful planet more sustainable and educating people to look after themselves better. Its a subject so important to me that after many years of not understanding my body, hating it and not knowing how to fuel it properly I’m currently studying to become a nutritional therapist. So I will be sharing food tips, recipes and health help and I will be doing it with the best of my knowledge and also knowing that all of us are different so our bodies respond to food and drink differently.
I love a good run followed by a balanced and nutritious breakfast – its a wonderful form of peace and my way of getting to grips with my day. I find myself longing for quiet sometimes and the world is wonderfully quiet in the mornings. I am not a morning person either. I am rather grumpy so to make myself personable a good run in fresh air certainly brings me back to life.
Post cardio a balanced start is needed –
The Black Forest Gateau Jar was born!
3 layers of creamy goodness –
You will need –
1 Large Banana
Handful of frozen mixed berries
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon Cacao Powder
4 Large Soft Dates
1 Teaspoon of Nutmeg
Handful of Cashew Nuts
Milk of choice – I like Coconut or Almond
High Speed Blender
Start by chopping your banana split into 3 piles, get your dates soaking in a small glass of boiled water and add the cinnamon till they go soft and gooey.
Berry layer – blend 1/3 of the banana and frozen berries with the nutmeg until smooth – Pop to one side.
Chocolate cream layer – blend 1/3 of banana with the dates, cinnamon, cacao and half the handful of cashews with a splash of milk until smooth and creamy.
Cream Layer – blend the remainder of the banana with the rest of the cashews and a splash of milk until smooth.
Layer up in a bowl or jar. I topped with left over goji berries (only topper I had left in the cupboard) but I think it would be better with chopped almonds and cinnamon… I like to play around.
Have a go and let me know what you think??
The mixture of fibre, protein and balanced complex carbs is essential. The nutmeg is a wonderful natural brain stimulant, its also got healing properties and is brilliant for lifting your mood. Cinnamon is a metabolism booster and the cashews hold essential proteins, fats and fibre all in one.
