Breakfast – Why it’s so Wonderful.

Sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.

                              – Lewis Carrol
I know, I know – we’ve seen everyone posting their “Avo Toast” or magical Chia Breakfasts and yes I’m afraid I am now one of those unbearably ridiculous morning breakfast people.
There is a reason for that – I get super grumpy when I don’t have a good start to the day. Who doesn’t? But I am not someone who actually wakes up hungry. I find eating first thing a really unbearable experience.
So what does a digestively challenged, slightly neurotic, sugar obsessed/yet conscious lunatic do? Much like tempting a child into a situation that requires a bribe; I had to find a way to make eating first thing interesting.
I discovered my love for creativity coming out in the form of breakfast foods.
I have a monumentally sweet tooth. In particular I love, LOVE Granola. Sadly most manufactured brands are absolutely packed with sugar. Whilst this isn’t a problem in moderation, most people are blissfully unaware of the dangers of hidden sugars and the detrimental effects it can have on your body.
No one wants a lecture but I find educating ourselves and younger generations on how important it is to eat better, exercise and get outdoors we may help stop the rise in Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes.
Mornings should always start with Coffee. Ok so really it should be water but I am a caffeine addict so I am pretty grumpy without it and I prefer to workout on an empty stomach – but the importance of refuelling is VITAL.
So – it wasn’t long before my obsession with Oats took a startling turn – *note the dramatic effect there*
I realised that I liked to eat balanced, wholesome and slightly garish breakfasts. Suddenly I am waking up looking forward to breakfast.
I started to experiment with healthy, tasty alternatives. Swatted up on nutritional information and took something I dreaded, often skipped or dare I say it regurgitate and made myself like it.
If you follow me on Instagram you may well notice there is a small obsession with breakfast.
When you are on your feet all day, talking and creating (which by the way is so much fun) you need brain power, something to keep you going. Your body also needs variety. So experiments with brekkie became part of my morning routine.
Not everything has been successful.. I made the most disgusting Walnut Loaf which quite frankly you wouldn’t feed to anyone you liked and I am working on my own breakfast loaf which hasn’t already been created by the masters of the fit food world. Ella Woodward being my big go to! But there is always time for progression.
Much like I use fashion, I now utilise my new found love of breakfast to express myself.
So if like me you are looking for healthier alternatives to start the day – give my recipes a go.
Or just ogle at the delight they are to the eye…

Cinnamon Pecan Oats With a Peach and Vanilla Swirl Topping Rich in Omega – 3’s, Balanced Carbs, Proteins and Fibre.

These are two really simple and QUICK breakfasts –
Both made with 1 cup of GF Oats, 1 banana and a table spoon of Flaxseed as the base of my oats – I always make them with equal parts of boiling water and KOKO Dairy Free Milk 1.5 cup to be precise.
I chop my banana into the oats and add the boiling water…
I then add a teaspoon of cinnamon and leave to soak for roughly 2mins while I prepare fruit and coffee.
I then add the milk. I Microwave on high for approx. 1min 30secs. This is a great way of having simple Oats in a rush!!
The banana adds essential sweetness and the milk is so creamy. This alone is a lush simple porridge.
I then chop pecans into small pieces and stir in.
For the top breakfast I simply topped with Pumpkin Seeds and Peach slices.
For the Peach and Vanilla Swirl –
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 ripe peach (Peaches are at their best July/August but still delicious none the less)
  • small handful of berries – I like blackberries and dark cherries for this
  • 6 blanched raw macadamias

Blend all in a high speed blender and pour ontop of the oats then pour in a dash of Coconut Milk and swirl. Honestly its so sweet and delicious and packed with protein and fibre!

It’s a breakfast that is sweet and tasty and also incredibly pretty.

A lot of us eat with our eyes so this helps!

So if like me you find the idea of breakfast difficult… Just pretend it’s an art project. Then demolish it with great pride because you’ve taken the time to nourish the beautiful body your soul was given. That’s art in itself.

  1. I love breakfast and it is super important. Your recommendations are clever! I love Acai bowls in the morning. My step mom never eats breakfast and the super healthy bowls which I pack with chia seeds, aloe vera, flax seeds, maka powder, cocoa nibs, royal jelly, and any fruit I have on hand, she scarfs happily! Love the clean, bright photos too :).

    • Hi Emily! Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Oh that’s great to hear! I love giving people decent food too! It’s so much fun making it for others and they enjoy it! Thank you for reading and connecting!
